NettleChrysaora melanaster Order Semaeostomeae These jellyfish (diameter 5-12qm) are periodic visitors to local shores. Their nematocysts are powerful, capable of causing serious skin irritation and burning sensations in man. This is aggravated by their habit of swarming. Although not very venomous, some people develop an allergic reaction to the stings. The extremely poisonous Box Jellyfishes or Sea Wasps (Chironex) are not found locally. |
