Rock OysterSaccostrea Family Ostreidae Several
genera and species are found locally, usually attached to rocks, concrete
pillars and other man-made structures. Their free-living larvae, on metamorphosis,
lose their foot and attach themselves onto suitable hard substrates by means
of a strong protein cement. Most of the local species are rather small compared
to the large, temperate species. |
