The shell is covered with a horny material (periostracum) which conceals its elegant patterns. Most species live in tropical waters on reefs and on the sandy/muddy parts of the lower littoral zone. Some feed on polychaete worrns, others on other molluscs and fish. C. consors is a fish eater, catching its prey by means of modified radula teeth which are linked with a poison sac. (Shell 7-8cm).
