Their hat-like shells, smooth and rounded margins, powerful sucker-like foot and the thick mucus they produce, enable them to clamp tightly onto rocks during low tides to avoid desiccation, predators and dislodgement by strong waves. (Shell diameter 0.7 to 1.0cm).
