Stinging Hydroids Order Hydroida These often inflict painful stings on careless swimmers and waders. The dangerous Portuguese-Man-O-War (Physalia physalis, O. Siphonophora), which resembles a floating jellyfish, is not found here. They usually prefer deeper water and are uncommon in littoral areas.
