Algae Other than chlorophyll, red algae contain red pigments (e.g. phycoerythrin) and orange pigments (e.g. carotene). Red Encrusting Algae Encrusting or coralline algae are common on rocks and other rough surfaces. They absorb calcium salts from sea water, forming very hard pink to red encrustations. |
