- Punggol beach comprises of
two zone: a rocky zone on the left side of the jetty and
a white sandy beach both on the right side of the jetty
and a quarter of the left side of jetty. There are long
walls at the edge of the entire beach, with footpath and
stairs to the beach.
- The rocky zone is a beach
with a lot of rocks strewn on the entire zone. The trash
load ranges from very low to medium along the entire zone
mostly around the rocks near the wall and near the water
line. Thus it is very difficult to estimate the number of
participant needed. I would give a rough estimate of 10
classes of 50 in that zone alone. The zone is unsuitable
for primary school students as there are times they would
need to step on the rocks to reach their site and it
could be a potential hazard.
- The sandy zone is beach
with very fine sand. The trash load ranges from very low
to low. It is very easy to clean even though it is a very
large area. 7-8 classes of 50 could handle the place in
an hour's time. It is very suitable for primary
school.
- The only way to access the
place is Punggol Road. The car park could only allow
40-seater buses to deposit or pick-up the participants
but there is no place for them to park. They could wait
at Twenty-fourth Avenue, as traffic there is not heavy.
Those coming by public transport should take MRT to
Punggol Station and board Bus 82 right to the terminal at
Punggol Jetty. A journey from Clementi could take an
hour.
- The jetty is the most
obvious landmark in the area. There are two empty plots
of field both on the right and left of the car park.
Personally, I would prefer the left plot indicated blue
for meeting point as it is more accessible from the car
park and there are more work that could be done on the
left side of the jetty. However Punggol's trash point is
on the right side of the jetty, indicated by the black
dot.
- The organizer would have to
set up a tent, as there is no overhead shelter at the
location unless Punggol Point Holiday Camp allows us to
set up shop there. Punggol Point Holiday Camp can also
serve as a rain shelter. It is the most logical place as
a meeting point if we are only going to concentrate on
the left beach. Moreover we could alight and pickup
participants there at Twenty-Fourth Avenue and avoid the
main traffic on Punggol Road but we would need to confirm
its access road as I did not reccee Twenty-Fourth Avenue.
There is construction in Punggol and roads are likely to
change.
